Wood End School, Harpenden

Resources hub including library and ICT suite

The Harpenden primary school were looking to replace accommodation which was being provided in portable classrooms and improve the educational experience for the pupils. We developed their brief and established the concept of forming a new resources centre on an underutilised area of the school site. A new extension created a large library and dedicated ICT suite contained in one new learning hub. This allowed existing rooms within the school to be returned to classroom use and the temporary buildings removed. The library has been designed to be an engaging space with a mixture of intimate areas for quiet reading and large areas for group teaching. The fabric of the extension has been designed to be highly sustainable and require minimal energy in use.
